“ΤΕΧΝΗ ΚΑΙ ΠΕΡΙΒΑΛΛΟΝ”
The international renowned sculptor Nikos Floros has been described as an ambassador of contemporary Greek art and has been honored with a number of international awards, for his offer to the cultural diplomacy among Greece and the community of nations.
His artworks have been exhibited around the world , including many important state museums and galleries, such as the Portuguese and the Russian Academy of Letters & Arts , the Tsaritsyno State Museum in Moscow – where more than 5 million visitors admired his works – the National Museum of Women in Arts in Washington, the Hoffburg Palace in Vienna and the Palace of Monte Carlo, Monaco, where the wedding dress of Grace Kelly was presented upon the request of Prince Albert, the Bologna Opera House, the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes under the auspices of Unesco, the State Museum of St. Isaac Cathedral in St. Petersburg, the El Greco Museum in Toledo, a Solo exhibition at the Sculpture Museum of Wuppertal that was followed by a series of exhibitions in Germany, and also a Solo Exhibition at the City Hall of Sydney under the title “Heroes of Metal”.

Another important fact was that his artworks was requested and accepted to be included in school text books.
Last but not least, as HE mentioned earlier, in 2019, at the Global Exhibition for the management of the environment “ECOWaste 2019”, Nikos Floros – official guest of the Government of the United Arab Emirate and under the auspices of the Greek Embassy under Ambassador Ekaterini Boura – presented the portrait of the President of UAE, HH Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyyan, made entirely of 3.000 (three thousand) aluminum cans of soft drinks. His portrait impressed the Royal Family and it now belongs to the permanent collection of the State.
Nikos Floros does not have the luxury of readymade material as most artists do, so he must make his original material out of nothing, that is, starting from zero and turning aluminum into fibers and then into “metallic fabric” , an extremely time consuming process.

He has patented his idea in New York, because it was in that city, where he started this new kind of art. This art form can be described as surrealism based on pop-art.
The artist recycles this material, offering it its maximum value. Its reconstruction transforms it into something beautiful, like a metaphysical state. Where something dies, it changes its essence and then it becomes something superior, acquiring great value, like the human soul.
The point is to see where true beauty comes from and to where it flows. This whole process has to do with selfless love for the human beings, in other words human feelings, compassion, helping fellows, understanding and self-denial. In this way, beauty and art can save the world and be our only hope, in order to find beauty and love for our fellow human beings within us, as the artist strongly believes that art unites not only individuals but nations as well.
Nikos Floros crafted aluminum costumes inspired by the costumes that our great Diva Maria Callas wore in her performances. Following that, he created a collection of mosaic portraits using the same material.

Violetta (Maria Callas by Nikos Floros)
On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Maria Callas’ birth, the Athens Concert Hall is going to host an exhibition which includes many portraits and sculptured costumes inspired by the life and personality of “La Divina”, all created by Nikos Floros. The exhibition will take place from October 15th to the end of November 2023, strongly supported by the Greek State authorities.
Prior to this exhibition, the artist will present some of his most significant artworks related to the opera singer, Maria Callas, at the Opera of Dubai, starting his global tour of exhibitions at the UAE due to his deep respect and connection with the nation.
His next project would be to establish a unique contemporary recycle museum, which aims to host – mostly permanently – collections of sculptures made by Nikos Floros in order to raise awareness regarding issues of sustainable development and climate change. So far there have been some offers and suggestions by several countries, but the project is withheld until a suitable location and the necessary funds will be found.
We are gathered here, upon HE’s kind invitation to attend this honorary event. The artist has created, specifically for United Arab Emirates, the Symbol of the Country, The Falcon, which with warm feelings of friendship and respect, will be offered to the country’s representative in Greece, HE, the Ambassador of UAE.
